Clinical Research Fellow

Summary

Martin is a Clinical Research Fellow based at Queen Mary University of London and Barts Health NHS Trust. He is studying for an MD(Res) in areas of benign and reproductive gynaecology. He is returning to clinical practice as a registrar in Obstetrics & Gynaecology at The Royal Free Hospital in 2016.

Martin is working towards completing his MD(Res) thesis on the following areas;

  1. Evaluating current diagnostic and therapeutic interventions for endometriosis.
  2. Harmonising outcomes and measures within endometriosis trials.

Martin is leading a study looking to harmonise outcome reporting within endometriosis -  iHOME - working closely with an international team.

In 2015 Martin co-authored a systematic review & meta-analysis evaluating the role of music to improve recovery following surgery. This work was published in The Lancet and received widespread media attention ranking in the top 5% of Altmetrics publications.

In 2016 Martin and the team at The Royal London Hospital Emergency Gynaecology Unit were awarded an NHS innovations prize. They successfully transformed the service provision of surgical management of miscarriage from the inpatient to outpatient setting, saving hospital admissions and cost. He is developing an educational session designed to facilitate outpatient management of miscarriage in all emergency gynaecology units within UCLPartners network of hospitals. Martin has been appointed as UCLPartners improvement fellow 2016 and won the Higher Education North East Central London award for trainee of the year 2015.
