The QMandW Alumni Association is holding its first European reunion in Paris. The University of London Institute in Paris (ULiP) will play host to two leading experts on the history of Paris, Queen Mary’s Professor Colin Jones and ULiP’s Professor Andrew Hussey. A great afternoon is planned with the opportunity to hear about recent developments at both Queen Mary and ULiP. A must for all alumni who love Paris in the Springtime! Spaces are limited and booking is essential. Make your own way there

‘Paris: anticipating, remembering and forgetting’
Colin Jones, Professor of History at Queen Mary
Professor Colin Jones joined the History Department at Queen Mary in September 2006, having spent the previous ten years at the University of Warwick. His most recent books include: The Great Nation; France 1715-99 and Madame de Pompadour: images on a mistress, both 2002. Most recently his book Paris; Biography of a City (2004) won the Enid Macleod Prize of the Franco-British Society. His current research interests are on the history of the smile, focusing on eighteenth-century Paris.

‘Paris Underground’
Dr Andrew Hussey, Head of French and Comparative Studies at ULIP
Liverpudlian Andrew Hussey, is a cultural historian and biographer. Dr Hussey’s most recent book Paris: The Secret History, which investigates the historic underbelly of the city, has been likened to Peter Ackroyd’s London: a biography by many reviewers. Andrew is also a regular contributor to the New Statesman, The Guardian and is contributing editor to the Observer Sports Monthly; in 2004 he famously interviewed France’s then football captain Zinedine Zidane.

East End Collaborations

East End Collaborations is a weekend event between the Live Art Development Agency and Queen Mary, University of London offering a range of support structures for graduates and emerging artists working with Live Art and based in London.
East End Collaborations aims to respond to the professional development needs of artists who are at an early stage of their practice by providing opportunities to access information, advice and expertise through the training day Everything You Wanted To Know About Live Art But Were Afraid To Ask and to showcase their work through the open submissions EEC Platform.
This event is supported by the Arts Council of England.
