Anglo-German and Film: Thomas Mann Workshop

The main speaker at this one day workshop will be Professor Eberhard Görner (Berlin/Freienwalde) with a paper (in German) on “Thomas Mann und der Film” and a screening of Eberhard Görner’s film production of Thomas Mann’s early novella “der kleine Herr Friedemann”

This will be followed by a round table discussion on the film.

The workshop is being organised by the Centre for Anglo-German Cultural Relations (CAGCR). Housed in the Department of German within the School of Modern Languages, the Centre has three main goals:

  • The facilitation of innovative research on Anglo-German cultural relations with special reference to the fields of literature, language, philosophy and comparative cultural practice, to be published in a refereed yearbook housed in the Centre
  • The provision of high quality postgraduate teaching on Anglo-German cultural relations through an MA programme and through PhD supervision
  • Outreach to the academic and general public through public lectures, colloquia and conferences on important Anglo-German themes and questions with a significant Anglo-German dimension.

Closing Reception

Time: 1.30-3.30

The closing reception will be an opportunity for all who have been invloved in Arts Week 2007 and attended events to get together and celebrate the week. It will provide an arena to network with colleagues and visitiors, refelect on the events of the week, look to the future of Humanities and Social Sciences at QM and to enjoy yourself. All those who have been involved in making the week a success, both staff and studetns alike, are welcome
