There are two music societies at Queen Mary University of London: ‘Queen Mary Music Society’ and ‘Barts and the London Music Society’. To date, they have only ever ‘shared’ the stage as opposed to perform together. This project brings together both Music Societies to perform as one, together with professional musicians who will not only play with them but will also give them specialist music coaching. 110 students (30: QM Choir; 30: BL Choir; 50 QM Orchestra (mix of QM and BL Music Society members) are involved in the project.
This project is setting new standards of music making for QM students and is challenging them in exciting and fulfilling ways. It is envisaged that this project will help offer increased enrichment and experience for students, simultaneously raising awareness of the increasing standards of music making at QMUL. Furthermore, it offers platform on an equal basis to both music societies. It recognises each society’s autonomy while generating increased and appropriate cooperation.
