Celebrating Summer Graduation 2011

Jack Harris (Law, 2011)

"I am immensely proud to have Queen Mary as my alma mater – my time here can only be described as fantastic. I experienced an enriching academic and social life, and through my work as a Student Ambassador, have been fortunate to have made many excellent lasting friendships with staff and students alike.

I was recently awarded a Scholarship which will enable me to be called to the Bar next year - this achievement is testimony to the high calibre of Queen Mary's academics and the excellence of their teaching and support. A huge debt of gratitude is owed to the many different lecturers and tutors who have taught and supported me throughout my time here.

I am moving on from Queen Mary with the fondest of memories, and look forward to maintaining a close link with the College through the excellent Alumni Association."

Jack has received a Lord Denning Scholarship from the Honourable Society of Lincoln's Inn to read for the Bar at The City Law School in September. He plans to go on to practice as a barrister.

Martin Rosillo-Lopez (Chemistry, 2011)

"Studying at Queen Mary has certainly exceeded my expectations. In addition to making great new friends, my course in chemistry has inspired me to go on to do further research. During the last two years I have been involved in a course-based mentoring scheme known as PASS (Peer Assisted Study Support). I particularly enjoyed this scheme as it allowed me share my experiences with first year students, as well as encourage them in their studies.

Special mention must be given to my lecturers who have motivated me throughout the course. These chemistry enthusiasts always find a way to make chemistry interesting whether it's inside or outside the lab."

Martin received a QMWA bursary during the three years of his degree programme. Queen Mary alumni generously support student bursaries, scholarship and research opportunities with gifts to the Queen Mary, University of London Foundation. To see how you might help, please click here.

Beren Ashton-Butler (English Language and Linguistics, 2011)

"As I find myself leaving Queen Mary, it is with a heavy heart as all the people I’ve met during my time here have made my memories exceptional and full of happiness.

As a highly ranked research intensive institution in a prime location, the quality of some of the experiences I have had here have been second-to-none. Whether I recount the times I’ve sat in the silence of the library, debated with classmates on assignments, sweated out my frustration in the gym, or relaxed with friends by the canal, the completion of my degree at this highly reputable institution has been the most satisfying and exhilarating of my accomplishments to date."
