The QM Former Staff Association (formerly the QMC Retired Staff Association) was first formed in 1985 by a group of members who attended the first Pre-retirement Course. On amalgamation with Westfield College, its title was changed to QMW Retired Staff Association and, in October 2007, to the QM Former Staff Association as it is now known.
The Association is open to all former Academic, Administrative, Technical and Support staff from Queen Mary and its predecessor colleges: Queen Mary College, Westfield College, St Bartholomew’s Hospital Medical College and The London Hospital Medical and Dental Colleges. This includes those who have taken early retirement, those who have moved on to employment elsewhere, or those whose contracts have come to an end. Our membership comprises a good mix of academic and support staff and currently totals approximately 100. A committee of members, elected annually, runs the Association. Newsletters to all members are sent out several times each year and various activities are organised to which members are also welcome to bring guests. During the year we have coach outings, theatre visits (at subsided costs) and other get-togethers, including the Christmas lunch, when we enjoy meeting together over a relaxed meal. Our Annual General Meeting is held in October and is usually followed by a half-day visit to a place of interest in or near to central London.
Former staff who are emigrating or moving are welcome to join a Queen Mary international alumni group.
