The Association
The QMC Retired Staff Association, as it was previously known, was first formed in 1985 by a group of members who attended the very first Pre-retirement Course. On amalgamation with Westfield College, its title was changed to QMW Retired Staff Association and, in October 2007, to the QM Former Staff Association as it is now known.
The Association is open to all former staff including those who have taken early retirement, those who have moved on to employment elsewhere or those who have been made redundant. At present, we currently have approximately 100 members, both academic and support staff.
We welcome all eligible staff from the College and are pleased to invite you to join by completing our application form.

Events
Various activities are organised for members; guests are also very welcome. In the course of the year, we usually have three coach outings and five theatre visits but we also arrange other activities such as riverboat trips. Whilst there is no difference in the price of coach and theatre seats made under "block booking" arrangements, there may be rare occasions when members and guests who have taken early retirement may not qualify for reduced entry fees to functions where 'senior citizen' status is a specific pre-requisite.
Our Christmas lunch is a good start to the season's festivities, and we all enjoy the reception with our friends beforehand. Our Annual General Meeting is held in October and is usually followed by a half-day coach trip.
A newsletter is issued three or four times a year; this is particularly appreciated by former staff who have moved away as a way of keeping in touch.
Members may also opt to receive College publications via the Alumni Relations Office.

Thanksgiving service for the life of Denis Mudge
Committee members attended a thanksgiving service for Denis Mudge who was Secretary of the QMUL Retired Staff Association
from its inception in 1985 before taking over as Chairman in 1997 until he became ill. Sadly, Denis passed away peacefully at his home in Ashtead, Surrey on 2 October 2006 when he lost his battle with cancer. A private family cremation service was held on 11 October.
A special thanksgiving service was held on 12 October at St Giles' Church, Ashtead to celebrate Denis' life and was attended by family, friends and members of the church congregation. Denis was a much loved and respected member of St Giles’ and this was apparent from the numerous tributes from church members.
His family paid their tributes in a wonderfully tender and dignified manner, and the love they all had for their father shone through the words spoken by them and the stories they shared so intimately with all those who were present at this moving service. Denis Mudge was one of those truly genuine English gentlemen who was loved and respected by all who knew him.
After the service those who attended were invited to take refreshments prepared by members of the congregation in the Church Hall where family members came and introduced themselves to those who attended the service.
Denis will be much missed by the Former Staff Association and all its members.
