The Principal, Professor Simon Gaskell, also held his first graduation ceremony of BUPT/Queen Mary Joint Programme where he awarded University of London degrees to 425 graduates on Wednesday 30 June 2010.
British Business Award 2009
Q ueen Mary’s ground-breaking Joint Programme with the Beijing University of Posts and Telecommunications (BUPT) won a 2009 British Business Award. The British Business Awards are organised by the British Chamber of Commerce in China to recognise and reward individuals and organisations who are building businesses and brands in China through innovation, enterprise and endeavour, as well as contributing to furthering Sino-British business relations. The Joint Programme won the Right Partner Award, one of six categories in total. Open to all British organisations and institutions who have successfully engaged in a formal partnership with a Chinese organisation or institution, this Award recognises innovative structures such as joint ventures, strategic alliances or partnerships between a UK university or research institute and a Chinese counterpart.
The judges commented that “putting together such a complex dual degree programme was an amazing feat,” and that “this was exactly the sort of programme that should be recognised by the awards.”
Professor Laurie Cuthbert, Queen Mary Director of the Queen Mary/BUPT Joint Programme, commented: “Winning the Right Partner category in the British Business Awards is a fantastic feeling, and demonstrates the value of the relationship we have with BUPT. The two universities really are one team working together with a common vision and it is our privilege to partner them.”
