Help for NGOs
Our School of Business and Management was the first in the UK to set up a free consultancy service to help not-for-profit-organisations (NGOs) become more business savvy. The service is modelled on similar lines to our pro-bono Legal Advice Centre, with students and academic experts offering free, professional advice and support to both local and international NGOs. As government cuts begin to bite, this is particularly relevant to UK NGOs, which are facing converging pressures: funding is becoming harder to obtain and, at the same time, under proposals such as the 'Big Society', they are being asked to take on broader responsibilities. The service offers advice on organisational change and development, leadership and strategy, and management and financial systems. Since its foundation in 2008, it has helped NGOs in east London, Hong Kong, Palestine and Brazil.
